Project: I-Search (Final Product, Final Summary, Final Questions)
Summary: The I-Search is a research method where the student takes ownership of the direction of the research and "buys" into the the idea of research.
Justification: The I-Search research method is a method to get the students to "buy" into the idea of information literacy due to them being able to choose a topic where they have a need. The I-Search method uses general reviewing of resources and filling out note-taking sheets to develop questions that will drive the research. Journaling and "double entry drafts" are used to help the student internalize the information and avoid plagarism. This helped to reinforce the efficient and ethical information-seeking behavior. The student is allowed to choose a way to demonstrate the information in the form of a final project.
My personal I-Search project centered on my son who has a chronic disease, Wegener's Grandulomatosis. He had been notified that the National Institutes of Health would be discontinuing the protocol for the disease. The medical needs of my son was the driving force for my project. Several times during the process, the information source would disappear but through the journaling process and double entry drafts, another window of opportunity would be opened. This process was a new rewarding experience for me. In this specific situation, I was feeling helpless and the I-Search gave me a feeling of helping in some way. I was able to find several sources of help for my son and since he is an adult, I left it up to him to look at the sources and choose what was best for him.

Project:Order
Summary: The order is an assignment in which we developed an order based on one of the goals from our Program Development and Evaluation Plan which was reading for pleasure.
Justification: The development of the order was based on the goal of reading for pleasure. Feeling that reading is key to sucess for students, we engaged in the task of developing an order that would provide a wide variety of materials on multiple grade levels and covering many subjects and themes. The selection policy of the school that we were working with was the final guide to the materials that were chosen. By assigning the materials with the mission, we were offering access to information for the students.

Project: Program Development and Evaluation Plan (PDEP)
Summary: The Program Development and Evaluatin Plan is an assignment in which we developed a mission statement, long and short range goals, a budget, and a evaluation process for the plan.
Justification: In the mission statement of the Loganville Primary School Media Center, we indicate that we strive to provide quality media, technology, and information services in order to enhance learning, ensure access to ideas and information for all, and to create lifelong learners and readers. Through the Program Development and Evaluation Plan, we are encouraging reading and lifelong learning by offering a stimulating environment that we are constantly evaluating and changing to meet the needs of the students. The Media Center is operated on a flexible schedule and is open during all school hours, in order to provide access to as many patrons as possible at the point of need. By providing relevant resources, services and instruction we are enabled to create patrons that are both knowledgeable and enthusiastic consumers of informational and recreational materials now and throughout their lives.

Project: Collaborative Unit
Summary: The Collaborative unit was an assignment in which we collaborated
with teachers to plan nine units that integrated information literacy with
the curriculum.
Justification: The Collaborative
unit was an assignment which clearly demonstrates the ability to collaborate
with classroom teachers to share in the idea to teach concepts and skills
of information processes and integrate the information with classroom content.
To be able to complete this task the team of media specialist and teacher
must share their knowledge of learners and learning. In the process of designing

Project, Final Summary,
Final Questions)
Summary: The I-Search is a research
method where the student takes ownership of the direction of the research
and "buys" into the the idea of research.
Justification: The I-Search assignment
assisted me in having first hand knowledge in the idea of information literacy
. As a result of having completed an I-Search, it will be easier to share
the knowledge with students. I was able to use Inspiration as I webbed my
world and chose a topic that was relevant to me. The internet was used to
find experts in the medical field who could help my son. I was able to e-mail
one of the doctor's that was suggested and he was helpful in finding out
what Duke University offered to help my son. I also used Microsoft Word
to complete the final project.
