What are the program dates for 2006?
Monday, June 19 (departure date from US is June 18) - Wednesday,
August 2
What is the application deadline?
The application deadline for February 10, 2006. Email Dr. DiBella
to ask for an application.
Who is eligible?
The program is open to undergraduate students who, by time of departure,
will have completed at least two semesters of German (or the equivalent)
at the college level and are in good academic standing. All applicants
must submit an application and have an interview with the program
director. For out-of-state students, the interview can be conducted
over the phone.
How much does it cost?
The program cost is $ 2,790.00. This includes travel
and excursions, most meals during the 5-day travel tour, home stay
in Erlangen w/breakfast, ground transportation in Erlangen (bike
or bus pass), some books for GRMN 3550, insurance, and an international
student ID card. Tuition is in addition to that amount and paid
separately directly to the Bursar’s Office. For two courses,
tuition is about $ 1,000.00, plus the technology fee. If you are
on HOPE, this scholarship will cover your tuition and technology
fee. If you are not on HOPE, add the tuition to your program cost.
Your program cost does not include airfare, optional
(overnight?) trip to Munich, lunch and dinner in Erlangen, some
meals in Leipzig/Weimar and Prague, course materials, and personal
expenses.
Does the HOPE scholarship apply?
Yes.. After being admitted into the Erlangen program, see your undergraduate
advisor to make sure you (still) qualify for HOPE and everything
is set.
What kind of scholarships are available?
UGA students are strongly encouraged to apply for a Kicklighter
travel grant. Pick up the form from our departmental secretary,
and submit it with a brief essay before the deadline on March 3,
2006. You don't have to submit another original transcript, as I
can make a copy of the official transcript you gave me w/ your Erlangen
application and will give it to the scholarship committee.

Is group travel available?
An optional group ticket Atlanta – Frankfurt (departing
Atlanta June 18, arriving in Frankfurt June 19) and Frankfurt-Atlanta
(Aug. 2) will be made available for about $ 1130.00 (including taxes
in the amount of $ 235) You will have to pay for it separately and
directly to the travel agent. To secure the group ticket, please
pay a $ 50.00 deposit to the program director. Deadlines will be
announced. You can change the departure times (inbound and outbound)
for a nominal fee. If you arrive earlier, you can spend the night
inexpensively at the Haus
der Jugend in Frankfurt which is only 10 minutes by subway from
the airport.
I am not a UGA student. How much do I have to pay and what
do I have to do?
You pay the same tuition and technology fee as UGA students. However,
you have to apply for summer transient status by the end of April.
To be admitted you need to be in good academic standing, and pay
a a non-refundable application fee of $ 50.00 directly to the bursar.
You will also need to provide proof of immunizations.
I am an out-of-state student. How much do I have to pay?
Students who are both from out-of-state and are not attending a
System institution pay in-state tuition and an additional $125.00
non-resident fee, which is collected directly by the Bursar's Office
with tuition. To be as a summer transient student, you need to be
in good academic standing, and pay a a non-refundable application
fee of $ 50.00 directly to the bursar. You will also need to provide
proof of immunizations.
What is the payment schedule?
The program fee of $ 2.790 is paid in four installments:

I need to cancel. How much money do I get back?
If you cancel by April 1, 2006, you get back a full refund minus
$ 500.00. If you cancel by May 1, 2006, you receive a full refund
minus $ 1,000.00. If the cancellation occurs after June 1, 2006,
there will be no refund.
How are particpants selected for the program?
Admission into the program is competitive. Criteria for
selection include academic standing, as well as maturity for overseas
travel and studies.
