Objective
To obtain an elementary school media specialist position in which I can empower students and staff members to use information, ideas, and technology ethically, creatively, and critically in order to become lifelong learners and to promote enjoyment of reading.

Gainesville Elementary School, Gainesville, GA – August 2004 – Present
Kindergarten math and reading teacher in a high achieving school with low-income and high-minority student population. Technology inservice instructor for system and member of Technology, Media Center, and Outdoor Classroom committees.

Flowery Branch Elementary School, Flowery Branch, GA – September 2003 – May 2004
Substitute teacher for kindergarten through fifth grades and After-School Program teacher and receptionist.

The International School of Minnesota, Eden Prairie, MN – August 2000 – June 2003
Teacher for Kindergarten through eighth grade Computer Science classes.  Supervisor for the Yearbook Team and the Accelerated Reader Program, and a technology inservice instructor for staff.

Westwood Elementary School, Bloomington, MN – September 1999 – June 2000      
Teacher of first through fourth grade Technology and Gifted and Talented classes. Coordinator and instructor of the after-school math-help program.  Member of the school’s Technology and Diversity committees.

Fulton Community School, Minneapolis, MN – October - December 1998
Third grade student-teaching experience, teaching with Minnesota’s 2003 Teacher of the Year.  Worked with the third grade team, built knowledge of graduation standards and cultural awareness of the Hmong and Vietnamese population.

Jefferson Community School, Minneapolis, MN – September - October 1998
Kindergarten student-teaching experience.  Half-day classes teamed-taught with another Kindergarten teacher. Improved Spanish working with the Hispanic students who made up the majority of the class.

Skills and Strengths

• Technologically inclined; proficient with managing both PC and Macintosh computers. Experience with networks, internet, website development and maintenance, and digital imaging and manipulation. Proficient with many programs including Microsoft Office, Macromedia Studio, PowerSchool, and educational software titles including KidPix and HyperStudio.
• Completed five semesters of college Spanish and three years of high school French and have traveled extensively in the United States, North and Central America, and Europe.
• Artistic with experience in sculpture, ceramics, technical drawing, graphic design, and photography.
• A motivated, organized, open-minded, patient and personable team-player, always willing to take on new challenges.

Volunteer Work

• Assisted in child-centered programs through the ASAPROSAR program in Santa Ana, El Salvador.
• Volunteered as a facilitator at the Building Bridges Conference for promoting diversity in Saint. Peter, MN.  
• Tutored primary grade students in reading at South Elementary School, and planned and assisted in a Service Learning Project at St. Peter High School in Saint Peter, MN.
• Taught and assisted in childcare and Sunday School at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Norwell, MA.
• Assisted in soup kitchens, homeless shelters, Habitat for Humanity, and a pre-school summer camp, participated in the Walk for Hunger for 10 years, and organized a book drive that donated books to urban shelters.
