THE ADVENTURE OF TRAVEL

Working for a government organization required an individual to obtain authorization
to leave one's job. Below is one that allowed me to go to Libreville for
Peace Corps related business.  Notice the signature of my Gabonese supervisor in the
lower right hand corner, it is a line design with the owner's name printed below.

Permission to travel

There were 3 types of paper one needed to travel in Gabon...
Identity Card
Money
Toilet Paper

This is my Carte de Sejour, giving me permission to be in the country and working.
Police check points along roads would ask for it often if they didn't know you.

Fill her up!

Packed with people, animals, food, and stuff to sell. Inside and outside of the taxi van was filled over capacity.  It was a 12 to 24 hour ride to the capital, Libreville, though it was only 411 kilometers (256 miles). Be prepared to eat dust, sweat bullets, and pray for a safe journey.

QUICK TRIP

If you had lots of money and little time, you could take Air Gabon to Libreville in less than 1 hour. There was an arrival and departure once a day. Our mail came by plane and so did the well-to-do.  Notice the barrier for the tarmat, it is made out of branches.
