EDIT 6150
Fall 2001

Welcome to Holly Anthony's E-Portfolio.
Here you will find links to all of my EDIT 6150 Projects.
(This is a new
site, so please keep checking for updates!)
Word Project
In this project, I created a handout that would
be utilized in a classroom. I was already very familiar with Word which made
this project very easy. I did, however, learn to create tables in Word and to
wrap text which were both new skills for me. I particularly enjoyed the wrap-text
feature; I believe it will come in handy when creating newsletters for student
organizations.
Powerpoint Presentation

In this project, I created a powerpoint presentation
which discusses the various aspects of education in Australia. This was a particularly
interesting assignment for me. I had some previous experience with Powerpoint,
but I had never included hyperlinks or created a presentation as a hierarchical
hypermedia document. I feel much more confident using Powerpoint after having
completed the WBTs and this assignment.
Cognitive Tool
Project
In this project, I used Excel as a tool for solving
the algebraic problem concerning the 'optimization of zero'. I had no prior
experience with Excel or Access which meant that I spent a lot of time playing
with the programs and 'figuring' things out. My students really enjoyed using
this program and found that it saved them so much time with hand calculations.
I also learned a great deal from completing this project and teaching this lesson.
I will certainly incorporate this program into other units in my classroom.

Open-Ended Project

In this project, after discussing my topic on
WebCT and refining it, I taught a two-week lesson on 'choosing the best cell-phone
plan.' We used Excel to organize our data and did explorations to see which
phone plan was best suited to meet the students' individual needs. I enjoyed
the WebCT discussions; it really helped me prepare for problems that I had not
considered previously.
Overall, this has been a great learning experience
in the classroom; I have made so many adjustments/revisions to the project as
the class worked through it. In the past, I have only used graphing calculators
during this project, but it was beneficial to also incorporate Excel.
Webquest Project

In this project, I developed a webquest for use
in a mathematics classroom. This webquest uses the Internet as a resource to
aid in the development of a travel budget for a senior trip.
The class really enjoyed this webquest and worked
really hard to complete all of the tasks. We spent three classes completing
the webquest, devoted one class to developing their budgets, and devoted one
day to the presentations of their proposed trips.
I really enjoyed developing this webquest. Before
taking this course, I was unfamiliar with webquests in general, and had certainly
never developed one myself. This was an excellent learning experience for myself
and my students.
