This lesson plan is intended to be used in a k-2 grade mathematics class.
Lesson Objective:
The students will learn how to add and subtract all kinds of numbers.
Background Information: During this lesson, students will be taught the basics of mathematics. Addition and subtraction are the first two steps in learning mathematics. The students will practice adding and subtracting by completing the worksheet that I assigned. After that the students will be practice more addition and subtraction on the Math Heroes software. The software will not only be a learning experience, but it is also made for kids to have fun. (Note: Everything that we will be going over is in chapter 1 of the Math is Fun textbook. The students must first complete the exercises in this chapter in order to fully understand the lesson.)
Note: After completing these steps the students will remain learning
addition and subtraction with larger integers.
Materials:
Notebook paper
Lesson:
The first thing that you need to do is complete the worksheet that I have
given each of you. This is an independent assignment so work by yourself.
Once you have completed the worksheet raise your hand and I will come over
to check your work. For every right answer I will award you with
a piece of candy. However, for every wrong answer one piece of candy
will be taken away. (Note: if you attempt all the problems you will
at least be awarded with one piece of candy.) Once everybody is done
with the worksheet we, as a class, will go to the computer lab to complete
math problems on the math heroes software. This program will not
only be a learning lecture but it will also be fun!!!! Raise your
hands if you have any questions. GOOD LUCK!!!
Conclusion: In your journals, share with me the way that you add and subtract numbers. Everybody has their own way of doing things so I just want to see how each of you do it. For extra credit: each student can bring in a sheet showing how many pieces of candy they won and how many pieces they could have one. Evaluation:
The teacher should take note of which students fully understood the lesson
and which students need more practice. Therefore, other arrangements
can be made in the event that a student has a learning disability.
