YOU FOUND A CARPOOL. NOW WHAT?

There are several things that need to be kept in mind to ensure a maximum experience for all carpool participants:

  • How are you going to split gas and parking fees? Monthly? Weekly? Be up front and honest when it comes to dealing with money. This will save big headaches later.
  • What are the parking arrangements? Will you be applying for a discounted space, or will you be dropping each other off?
  • What is Plan B? What will happen if someone is ill, forgets or if there is an emergency?
  • How long will you wait if someone is running late? Five minutes? 10 minutes? All day?
  • Who will be driving and how often? Will you alternate days or weeks?
  • What are the basic ground rules for each driver? What radio stations are prohibited in which vehicles? Is smoking an issue? Is there a "no eating" ban in a vehicle? Make sure you respect the preferences of each driver, after all, would you want someone else messing with your radio station?
