Introduction

As a marine biologist, you have been called into the Fanny Beach area to help save the loggerhead sea turtles.  In the last few months, there has been a serious decline in the sea turtle population, but no one knows why.  Locals have kept a close eye on the problem and have provided you with newsletters to use as clues.  Before you read the newsletters, you will first brush up on your knowledge of threats to turtles by searching specific websites.  Remember...the community and turtles are depending on you to research possible causes and come up with solutions for how to save the sea turtles!

Task

As a marine biologist, you will investigate reasons for the recent sea turtle population decline in the Fanny Beach area.  Research the possible causes using the websites provided. (Hint: You may want to take notes!)  After completing your research, you will read articles in the Fanny Beach Newsletter archives and try to pin point the cause behind the sea turtle deaths.  Once you've discovered why the Fanny Beach sea turtles are dying, you will need to write a letter to the mayor explaining the problem (using information from your research) and giving suggestions for how the Fanny Beach community can save the sea turtles.
